Crabs or apples?

If you've ever wondered where Blue Crabs come from, I can honestly tell you that they don't grow on trees but, apples do. So why the name Crabapple Tree anyway?

Well, I did a little research and discovered that Crabapples are actually differentiated from apples based on fruit size. If fruit is two inches in diameter or less, it is termed a crabapple. If the fruit is larger than two inches, it is classified as an apple. Bet you didn't know that. I've also learned that Crabapple Trees have such a great reputation for being so vibrant and colorful, that many artist have given them the nickname of "jewels of the landscape."

I certainly agree with the nickname, but I selected the Crabapple Tree as my newest inspiration because it has a funny name, and I could have fun with it.

I would like to take this time to introduce my first artistic piece of the new year, simply named "Crab Tree". It's an easy play on words, but I also think its a little more Maryland. A tree like this would certainly make crabbing a whole lot easier, but I wouldn't want to sit under one no matter how sunny and hot it was.

Please check my online store in the next few days for availability of the "Crab Tree" print.
